DMT : Ludhiana : (23 August 2023) : – With Chandrayaan-3 having made soft landing on the moon’s surface flawlessly , We Alumni of SCD Government College, Ludhuanbaare proud that in India’s Space Mission is associated with our Alma Matter’s illustrious Alumnus Dr. Satish Chander Dhawan in whose name Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota was established and ChanderYaan took flight from that place. It was a matter of pride that launch of the very First Rohini Satellite from this centre successfully launched on 18 July 1980 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre. The year coincided with the Diamond Jubilee of our college too. Satish Chander Dhawan did his FSC from our college in 1934 when his father Devidyal was a sessions judge in Ludhiana. Later Dr Dhawan studied in Punjab Enginering College at Lahore and did further research.
Those who give congratulatory messages are Dr Tara Singh Komal (Mechanical) an alumnus of 1961 , Surinder Singh Bhogal, Onkar Singh Pahawa, Harbhajan Singh IRS Retd. Prof Mrs Sarita Matta Dr Brij Mohan Sarwal, O P Verma, K B Singh,Anupam Bharia ,Prof Sarita Tiwari –all alumni of the college .
Brij Bhushan Goyal , Organising secretary of Alumni Association said that GOI & Punjab State should strengthen core science teaching in our college by giving more funds for innovation and research by students . Current Principal DR Tanveer Likhari and a former Principal Dr Dharm Singh Sandhu also congratulated the isISRO scientists and asked students to get inspirations from life of Satish Dhawan . There are joys moments in the Alma Mater of Dr Satish Dhawan .
Dr Brij Mohan Sarwal, a teacher said ,’ It’s a moment of great pride for the institution. The college should seek the introduction of a B.Sc course…TDC in Astrophysics from U G C . Special funds, staff and the infrastructure are provided by the Government of India.There may be an Integrated course B.Sc.-M.Sc on the subject with OJT,on job training at ISRO.
