DMT : Ludhiana : (29 July 2023) : – The untimely demise of its president Gurbinder Singh Atwal has been mourned by the activists of Mahatma Gandhi Peace Mission at GandhiDham. Atwal breathed his last recently in a Srinagar hospital after getting a brain stroke midair in flight to the place.
The organizing secretary of the peace mission Brij Bhushan Goyal informed that the activists are shattered at his demise. He recalled how under the leadership of Atwal for the last more than 30 years the activists have kept revived the spirit of Gandhian Philosophy by gathering to pay tributes at Gandhi Memorial on the day of Bapu Gandhi’s birth and death anniversaries including on 12th February each year when Bapu’s ashes were immersed in The Sutlej and memorial built in 1948 . Activists also mobilised children at every function. Atwal always stood for secularism boldly and spoke fearlessly against the drug mafia.
P S Gulshan, another activist said that the best tribute to Atwal would be to take care of Gandhi Memorial at GandhiDham as it has been engulfed on all sides by illegal encroachments. Activists earlier put up a fence and did a plantation which was destroyed by encroachers.
Atwal’s cremation takes place at Rajghat Phillaur Sunday at 1 PM .
